“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment I know this is the only moment.”
― Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace
One of the simplest yet most effective meditations to try is simply focusing on your breath. When you breathe in, think “breathe in” and focus on the sensations of the air coming into your body and travelling down to your stomach. When you breathe out, think “breathe out” and pay attention as your breath leaves your body. Paying attention to your breath and breathing deeply into your stomach naturally relaxes you (many of us restrict our breathing especially when we are stressed). Thinking about breathing in and breathing out distracts and quiets your mind. Just try doing this for 3 minutes to start and see what happens as you become more aware, quiet your mind, and relax!
